How to Apply

  1. Qualifications
  2. How to Apply

Step 1

Complete the Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application (DS-160) form.

Step 2

To request an Expedited/Emergency Appointment:

Applicants must first schedule a regular appointment, either through the Information and Appointment Website or by contacting the Call Center at 001 800 759 6313 (Calling from Suriname) or 1 703 831 3420 (calling from the U.S.), Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m.

If the regular appointment date is not early enough to accommodate the emergency circumstances, applicants may request an expedited appointment on the Information and Appointment Website by selecting the “Request Expedite” link on the “Application Summary Page” and following the instructions provided.

Step 3

If the Consular Section approves your request, then you will receive an email alerting you to your new expedited appointment date/time. Should the Consular Section deny your request for an expedited appointment, you will be notified of the denial by email, and you should keep your existing appointment.

Step 4

Visit the U.S. Embassy on the date and time of your visa interview.

Please bring the following documents to the Consular Section at the appointed date and time:

  • current valid passport (previous passport with last issued visa if applicable)
  • Printed DS-160 confirmation sheet (with barcode on it),
  • current 2 x 2 inch (5x5cm) photo not older than six months – with a light or white background and without eyewear. View the Photo Composition Template for more size requirement.
  • documentation relevant to your travel

Applications without all of these items will not be accepted.

We always recommend that individuals apply for visas well in advance of their proposed date of travel.  No assurances regarding the issuance of visas can be given in advance.  Therefore, final travel plans, or the purchase of non-refundable tickets should not be made until a visa has been issued.
