On May 7, 2014, representatives from government, private sector, youth, civil society partners and USAID/Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) Staff met to establish a technical advisory committee. Ambassador Jay Anania, Minister of Labor Technological Development and Environment Michael Miskin, KARI YU! Program Director Carlo Arze, and former Managing Director of Staatsolie Eddy Jharap attended the meeting and offered remarks.
Ambassador Anania stressed the challenges of interagency coordination but told the audience, “[such] coordination is crucial to the projects’ success, longevity and sustainability.”
At the meeting, PADF and Partners of the Americas (POA) agreed to jointly constitute an inter-ministerial and cross-stakeholder Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). The main objective of this entity is to serve as an advisory body to: 1) build a network that supports youth engagement in economic opportunities and secures employment opportunities for youth by validating training curricula and identifying internship and labor opportunities, and 2) monitor and provide input to strategic intervention of the PADF and POA programs in order to further enhance their breadth and expand their reach to youth.
The Kari Yu! Program is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the Pan-American Development Foundation (PADF). Kari Yu! is designed to bring together government, private sector, civil society and youth to develop and implement innovative projects and approaches that support the social inclusion and economic engagement of youth, for a more competitive Suriname.
