Event: Suriname Independence Day Parade Saturday Nov 25: Road Closures and Information.

The Surinamese Police Force (KPS) has reported that in preparation for the Independence Day Parade taking place tomorrow, Saturday November 25 from 9:00am-11:30am in the downtown area, the below intersections have been closed to traffic. KPS is expecting approximately 500 parade participants and 1500-2000 parade goers. As information can change, the U.S. Embassy in Paramaribo recommends all individuals monitor news and media reports.

  • Start Kerkplein in front of Burger King
  • Noorderkerkstraat
  • Henck Arronstraat
  • Independence Square
  • Mr. F.H.R. Lim A Postraat
  • Finish at Kerkplein

If you travel downtown, at all times during the weekend, the U.S. Embassy in Paramaribo advises all individuals to remain vigilant and exercise caution at busy locations, consider alternate routes, and follow all traffic rules and regulations.
