Event: Paramaribo Demonstration and Road Closures on November 14, 2023.
The Central Labor Union, consisting of teachers, nurses, and bank employees will hold a protest march today, November 14th beginning at 9:00 AM in the vicinity of the downtown area. The Surinamese Police Force (KPS) expects approximately 1500 participants. As information can change, the U.S. Embassy in Paramaribo recommends individuals monitor news and media reports. The march is expected to take the following route:
- Starting at Heiligenweg
- Turning on to the Waterfront/Waterkant
- Moving to the National Assembly building.
Road closures at the following intersections have been implemented and will continue until the end of the protest march:
- Heiligenweg/Maagdenstraat
- Waterfront/Heiligenweg
- Kleinewaterstraat/Waterfront
- Grote Combeweg/Henck Arronstraat
- Roseveltkade/Kleine waterstraat
- Tamarindelaan/Lim A Poostraat
- Waterkant/Cornerhouse.
The U.S. Embassy in Paramaribo recommends individuals avoid the area, consider alternate routes, and follow all traffic rules and regulations.
