Message to U.S. Citizens: U.S. Embassy Paramaribo

Location: Paramaribo, Suriname

Event: Paramaribo Protest and Street Closures

On Friday March 24, 2023, starting at approximately 10:00 AM, a protest will be held at the Independence Square in Downtown Paramaribo, near the Presidential Palace. The size of the protest is unknown. There will be a large police presence in the area. Road closures will be enforced starting at 6:00 AM on March 24, 2023, affecting the following areas:

  • Kleine Dwars/ Sommelsdijckstraat
  • Kleine Combeweg/Roseveltkade
  • Arronstraat/ Grote Combeweg
  • Watermolen/ Lim A Po Straat
  • Henk Arron/Mgr. Wulfingstraat

The U.S. Embassy recommends individuals to remain vigilant and exercise caution at all busy locations, obey local traffic laws, and follow the direction of local law enforcement.
