Event: Paramaribo Protests and City Center Street Closures
Today, February 24, 2023, starting at approximately 1:00 PM, a protest will be held at the Cantonal Court on the Grote Combeweg. Protestors are demanding the immediate release of Stephano “Pakkitow” Biervliet who was detained because of the February 17, 2023, protests.
Starting at 11:00 AM, the following intersections will be closed to traffic:
- Kleine Waterstraat/Roseveltkade
- Grote Combeweg/ Henck Arronstraat
- Roseveltkade/Koninginnestraat
- Wulfingstraat/Henck Arronstraat
The U.S. Embassy recommends personnel avoid protest areas, consider alternate routes, follow all traffic rules and regulations, and follow the direction of local law enforcement.
