Location: Paramaribo, Suriname
Event: Continuing Paramaribo City Center Street Closures
The Surinamese Police Force (KPS) announced that the curfew for downtown Paramaribo has been lifted, but the area in front of the Presidential Palace and National Assembly (DNA) remains closed: specifically at the intersections of Grote Combeweg and Henk Arronstraat and Van Roseveltkade and Kleine Waterstraat. There are public transportation disruptions as bus drivers remain on strike. There have also been calls for additional protests, but these have not been well-attended, nor have they been violent.
There are no official travel restrictions currently; however, the U.S. Embassy in Paramaribo advises individuals to remain vigilant and exercise caution at all busy locations such as major intersections, stores, malls, and gas stations, obey local traffic laws, and follow the direction of local law enforcement.
