The Surinamese Police Force (KPS) announced, following protests and subsequent property damage near the National Assembly (DNA) building, that, as of Friday, February 17, 2023, from 6:00 PM through the entirety of the weekend or until further notice, the area that lies within the borders of the following streets will be closed. Only emergency traffic will be allowed on:

  • · Ladesmastraat and the Saramaccastraat
There are no official travel restrictions at this time.
The U.S. Embassy in Paramaribo advises individuals to remain out of the vicinity during these times and to exercise caution at all busy locations, such as major intersections, stores, malls, and gas stations, obey local traffic laws, and follow the direction of local law enforcement.
