Event: The government of Suriname has implemented enhanced screening and quarantine measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Travelers should be prepared for travel restrictions to be put into effect with little or no advance notice. Visit the website of the Ministry of Public Health for additional information on these new measures.

On March 13, Suriname’s Vice President announced the country will close its airspace at midnight the same day. The blanket travel ban on all incoming and outgoing flights will be provisionally valid for 30 days.

Following the eventual resumption of air traffic, the government of Suriname’s latest March 11 guidance is that passengers showing symptoms of COVID-19, including Surinamese residents and non-residents, who arrive in Suriname after traveling within the last 14 days in countries where there is local transmission of COVID-19 will be quarantined for 14 days after arrival. Passengers without symptoms will be instructed to self-quarantine and report any symptoms directly to the designated Ministry of Public Health hotline by dialing 178 (text 8836643). All travelers arriving in Suriname will undergo temperature scans by Port Health Officers.
