The Government of Suriname has announced a total lockdown beginning Monday, June 8 which will last for two weeks. Everyone except for designated essential services workers is instructed to stay home during this period. Visits to medical providers, the police, pharmacies, and the morgue are allowed. On Wednesdays and Sundays only people with emergency situations may be on the road.

One person per household who is over the age of 16 and with valid ID may conduct grocery shopping between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the following days, based on the first letter of his or her last name:

Mondays – last names beginning with A, B, C, D, E

Tuesdays – last names beginning with F, G, H, I, J

Wednesdays – closed

Thursdays – last names beginning with K, L, M, N, O

Fridays – last names beginning with P, Q, R, S

Saturdays – last names beginning with T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z

Sundays – closed

KLM has announced that it will operate flights from Paramaribo to Amsterdam on June 13, 20, and 27. U.S. citizens are permitted to transit Schiphol airport, remain airside, and continue onward to the United States. However, passengers will not be permitted to exit the transit area. Passengers should have a confirmed onward flight to the U.S. prior to commencing travel. For further information about these flights or to book tickets, please visit www.klm.com.

Report symptoms right away if you believe you may have COVID-19 or were exposed to someone who may have COVID-19 by dialing 178 to reach the designated Ministry of Public Health COVID-19 hotline, or by sending a text to 8836643.
